“I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.” ― J. B. Priestley
Welcome to February! The snow has melted, we get an extra day - and spring is just around the corner. January has been a difficult month for those Gabriolans who have nowhere to live or no food to put on their table. A huge thanks to Emily and her team for going the extra mile and ensuring that all who came in search of food were generously supplied. It also involved many treks through the snow to make sure that food was available where it was needed.
Meanwhile our Executive Director and her staff have been meeting with our partner organizations to get the new transportation programme up and running. That’s the service, with funding from Island Health, that will assist non-emergency Gabriolans attend medical appointments on Vancouver Island. The recent acquisition of a used passenger van makes it feasible to do this.

Our Goals & Values
All of these developments – and many others - are PHC doing things that are consistent with our values. You may like to know how these values are described in our strategic plan. You can find it on our website: https://www.phcgabriola.org/strategicplan. There are many paragraphs, but the one that pervades everything that we do is:
“Lead with Heart – People matter to us. We are committed to nurturing all members of our community in a kind and caring way, so they can grow and thrive. We want everyone who works for and with us to live safe, sustainable, and happy lives. We treat all people with dignity and respect.”
New Staff Member
Talking about staff – we have a new face! We have been fortunate in attracting a new Manager for our Seniors’ Programmes – Jen Nilsson. She is no stranger to PHC and is well-known and respected by our staff, our volunteers, and the community. She holds a diploma in Therapeutic Recreation and has an MA in healthcare leadership. Most importantly - she is liked and respected by our seniors. Welcome Jen!
