Gabriola Power Outages
On an increasing frequency, often the power outages arrive with severe weather conditions. This combination of events does not trigger a formal provincial emergency response, but it does put our vulnerable population particularly seniors at risk.
This program will do four things:
1. Establish a warming or cooling centre as necessary, 2. Assist seniors with grab and go emergency bags, 3. Information sessions sharing local community information on evacuation routes, centres, and preparations residents can undertake 4. Wellness checks and transportation as necessary to relief centres
* In 2022-23 grant period we used these funds twice, once in summer, once in winter. In 2023-24 we expect we will have two winter events and one summer event.
