Annual Salary Range: $75,000 - $93,000 ($41 – 51/hour)

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Executive Director to lead our organization, drive our mission forward, and manage day-to-day operations.


About Us:

People for a Healthy Community (PHC) exists to provide services and support to residents of Gabriola, Mudge, and DeCourcy Islands throughout their lives, and especially at vulnerable points to improve their health and quality of life in a manner that builds community, maintains dignity and challenges inequities.

 

Through our own initiatives and in collaboration with others, we deliver programming that includes:

  • Food programs, ranging from elementary nutrition to family grocery support to seniors’ lunches

  • Seniors’ programs ranging from adult activity days to aging in place support

  • Providing access to services such as advocacy, caregiver support, hospice, physical and mental health, and transportation.
     

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the principal leader of People for a Healthy Community (PHC) and will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders to implement and expand the organization’s strategic vision, ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach. The ED will lead fundraising efforts, oversee operational activities, and represent the organization in the community to ensure sustainability and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Vision:

  • Develop and execute the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission and vision.

  • Serve as the principal spokesperson for the organization, promoting its mission and vision in the community.

  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of staff and volunteers to achieve organizational goals.

 

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and plans, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across all aspects of the operation and developing and implementing policies and procedures as needed

  • Monitor and evaluate plans and program performance and outcomes to ensure goals are met.

  • Build a positive, inclusive organizational culture fostering psychological safety and collaboration across teams
     

Financial & Fundraising:

  • Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring the effective allocation of resources.

  • Lead fundraising initiatives, including grant writing, donor relations, and special events to ensure financial sustainability.

  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and financial requirements, including non-profit regulations and tax filings.

Board & Stakeholder Relations:

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to provide guidance, support, and updates on organizational progress.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, donors, volunteers, and community leaders.

  • Engage stakeholders to foster long-term partnerships and enhance the organization’s public presence.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role in the non-profit sector (Executive Director, CEO, or equivalent) with a track record of organizational success.

  • Strong understanding of non-profit governance and best practices.

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, including grant writing and donor engagement.

  • Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with integrating equity, diversity and inclusion focus in strategic and operational plans, programs, procedures, and processes.

  • Strategic leadership and the ability to implement long-term vision while managing day-to-day operations.

  • Experience in developing and managing operational plans, budgets and financial planning.

  • A passion for social service programming and a commitment to the organization’s values.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a master’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.


Compensation & Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary range of $75,000 - $93,000. Placement in the salary range will be based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
