All across Canada communities raise money for worthy causes, the most local of all is typically for the local school - and sometimes if lucky the fundraising efforts are boosted by a team of talented quilters who donate a quilt for raffle. AND YES, Gabriola is such a community! Late last year People for A Healthy Community (PHC) Board Chair, Mary Lee Burns approached the Gabriola Quilters group and asked if they would make a "Sunflower" themed quilt to be raffled to raise funds for the school hot lunch program. The art quilt - which is 6'X8' perfect for the family room sofa, wall hanging or bed-topper.
"PHC has been growing and giving away sunflowers during covid; reminding children, seniors and volunteers that Spring is a time of renewal and hope" said Mary Lee.
Tickets can be bought 1 for $5, 3 for $10 or a book of 10 for $40, from Board members at the PHC office, and at the Royal Lepage Office.
