People for a Healthy Community on Gabriola Island Society Launches New Hospice Program
About a year ago, the Gabriola Health and Wellness Collaborate established two community health priorities. The first was to develop new supports for young families, children and youth. The other was to address a growing need for improved palliative care on Gabriola. Both these initiatives will be reported on at the upcoming Collaborative community meeting on January 30th.
The Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice on behalf of the Health and Wellness Collaborative secured funding which has led to improved palliative clinical services and a local hospice program. People for a Healthy Community (PHC) has agreed to be the lead organization supporting the hospice program; providing leadership and coordination of community services, home and family supports and volunteers. Island Health has agreed to contribute partial funding to develop program, local supports and services. PHC has joined the Vancouver Island Federation of Hospice and the BC Palliative Care Association.
A part-time staff person will lead the development of the program, and recruit, train, deploy and support volunteers for home and family support. If you are interested in the position you may view the job description at this link :
